30th January 2023

We kicked off the first day of Languages Week with the unveiling of our new wall mural which has really brightened up our corridors - designed by Claire in ICT with information provided by Mr O'Gormlaithe and Ms McGuinness it is something that will be around for a long time and provide our students with a real talking point! Starting conversations and broadening their knowledge of their culture!

Wednesday saw Saint Brigid's Day come upon us and we had a lovely morning creating crosses right across our school community! The Pupils and Staff got to take these home with them - Thursday saw the creation of Year 9 posters with top prizes including 2x £50 Amazon vouchers so they were busy getting theirs ready!

Friday sees an Irish Spelling Bee with lots of fun to be had!

Our Year 8 students are currently studying Acids and Alkalis and they created their own indicator solution using water and red onion. They used this solution to then test different chemicals to determine whether they were an acid, alkali, or neutral.

They cut up red onion and then boiled it in water using a Bunsen burner, after allowing the solution to cool they used the filtration techniques they learned earlier this year to remove all onion pieces from the solution and they then used the filtrate to test different lab chemicals.

They are enjoying their time in the lab so far and looking forward to more practical’s!

We started Catholic Schools week with our ‘Walking Together to Celebrate Grandparents Day’. Grandparents of our Year 8 Pupils were invited into our school community to take part in a school mass which was guided by Canon Dawson our school Chaplin.

The Grandparents then were served with tea, coffee and some biscuits and given the opportunity to meet and chat with other members of the school community.

We also welcome Bishop Larry Duffy to our school to plant a tree in our new faith garden - take a look at our week in this video:

We thank everyone who made this possible and hope our students can take some time to pray and enjoy our new faith garden!
