22nd March 2023
In connection with NI Science Festival 2023, St Kevin's Science Department held a Life and Science Fair, where GCSE students interested in studying Science at A- Level and Post-16 Science students listened to and mingled with a number of professionals within the sector.
These included:
Chris Maguire (Paramedic)
Dr Catherine Barrett (GP)
Dr Helen Mulligan (Pharmacist)
Corinna Keaney (Occupational Therapist)
Paul Rafferty (Physiotherapist).
The Students got a great insight into what the professionals done to date in their careers and how their paths didn't lead them straight to what they wanted to do in their working life.
"It was a very interesting event and opened my eyes up to the endless
possibilities to do with a medical career." Thomas (Year 13)
"I was set on a path before this event but that totally changed when I heard the many interesting facts surrounding the OT path - I will be considering my options" Edel (Year 14)
The Students got a chance to ask questions of the professionals and some even got the chance to develop their working skills in the future! We thank everyone who attended and also those staff who made this possible including Mrs Rogers and her Science colleagues!
Have a look at the day in this short video and if you would like to watch the full version of the day the link is at the end -
The event proved to be a great success, and a very informative event for our Students.
